Our Dromedaries

One of the unique features of the Rose du Sable is its numerous dromedaries. In contrast to other operators we can directly arrange a top-quality desert adventure for you. “The desert cleanses the soul,“ is a Touareg proverb. In harmony with nature, far from the tourist crowds, you can experience the everyday life of a desert caravan.

We can arrange tailored excursions into the desert for you and offer both half-day tasters and lengthy desert expeditions.

From Tamsahlte a three-day trip is sufficient to reach the dunes at Tarhbalt, where you can admire 9000-year-old rock drawings. On a five-day trip we can guide you deeper into the Sahara to the Oum-Jrane region. A ten-day trip takes you as far as the distant sandy desert region of Erg Chebbi.

Your luggage will be loaded onto the dromedaries. You don’t need to be especially athletic and can also ride on the dromedaries if necessary.

Daily travel schedule
The nomads pack the animals in the morning. Then we are ready to go. The nomads quickly forge ahead with the “ships of the desert”. The sun is not yet hot and it is possible to completely absorb and enjoy the experience. The diversity of the environment is astonishing and there are all kinds of things to discover: animal tracks, old coins, flowers, beautiful stones, interesting sand and stone structures... But now the sun begins to rise and soon reaches its zenith.

The caravan stops for a break. The camel driver looks for a nice group of trees with sufficient shade. Mats are laid out. The cook prepares a salad. After the meal and a short nap the trip by dromedary continues for a while until we reach the destination for the day.
Now it is time to enjoy the most beautiful period of the day. The sun has become a red ball, bathing the dunes in a crimson light. In the distance dromedaries move past. and the voices of nomads can be heard. Then darkness falls. Each night the campfire is the focal point of the caravan community. Cooking pots rest on the embers. Couscous with mutton is on the menu.
